Kashmir for 7 days | Visiting usual & off beat locations | My complete itinerary for Kashmir & Gurez

Travel Date: April-end, 2022.

Day 1 - Delhi-Pahalgam (via Aharbal waterfalls). Overnight in Brown Palace

We girls took an early morning Indigo flight from Delhi to Srinagar. Srinagar is the only airport in the Kashmir valley. We already had a cab booked to pick us from the Srinagar airport and drive us to Pahalgam Via Aharbal waterfall. This will require some amount of detour, however we managed to reach Pahalgam by 6:00pm.

Day 2- Pahalgam Sightseeing. Overnight -same as the previous night.

A full day of sightseeing to the drivable tourist spots of Chandanwadi ; Betab Valley & Aru valley.

You will have to book a local taxi for sightseeing and will not be allowed to take the Srinagar taxi to these areas. You can easily book by calling the local taxi stand =, their number and rate card is available with the hotel front desk.

Day 3 - Pahalgam to Srinagar.Overnight at Dar Es Salam hotel.

We booked a local taxi from the Pahalgam taxi stand(number available with our Airbnb) to take us to Srinagar. Left Our Airbnb for Srinagar at 10:00am. Enroute we stopped at a Dargah as well as our driver’s home for tea.

We also shopped a bit on the highway shops owned by really exuberant persons, however I personally feel their prices were inflated.

Evening which we chose to spend relaxing and doing a 3 hour long shikara ride.

Day 4 - Srinagar Sightseeing , Shopping, Heritage Walk & Dinner at Taj Dal.

We hired a local taxi to take us around to Pari Mahal and Tulip Gardens. Latter was not the best experience as it was April and the tulips were all dry and withered.

Post lunch we did a quick shopping in Khayam Chowk Market and then we had signed up for a heritage walk which was a culturally immersive experience, however was a bit steep with Rs.2000 per person for. Three hour long walk. But I would still recommend it as otherwise an outsider may miss a lot of lovely areas of the old city.

For dinner we went to infinity the rooftop restaurant in Taj Dal. The view of the city is breathtaking from there, especially around sunset.

Day 5 - Visiting Artisan’s home & workshop in Old City Srinagar.

The handicraft industry in Srinagar is of utmost importance and this is clear from the fact that UNESCO in 2021 registered Srinagar as part of UNESCO creative cities network - UCCN.

I personally enjoy handicrafts and handmade products a lot and hence I decided to meet some walnut wood whittling and papier-mâché. This was a long day of walking through the pedestrian lanes of the old city. Visiting work really small shops and lovely homes too.

Day 6 - Srinagar to Gurez. Overnight at Kaka Palace Hotel Dawar.

Gurez is accessible only in the summer's-end April-October beginning.

It will take 7 hours to reach Dawar from Srinagar with minimum stops. Dawar is the largest town in Gurez valley and also has a J&K tourist guest house. The valley gets electricity only for a few hours in the evening through community generators.

In the evening we visited the Habba Khatoon Springs which is a 15-20 minutes drive on gravel road and a short hike to an overhyped spot(quite frankly).

Day 7 - Driving around in Gurez - Stop at Angaikot Tulail valley.

You may require prior permissions which can be obtained by the local authorities . We took it on the same day, but ideally you should discuss it with your local guide/driver/property manager for a better insight into the latest permit requirements.

a day in advance.- Today will be an entire day of off-roading to what will feel like a primitive era in the valley. Stop at Angaikot in Tulail. Also pack some lunch as there is no substantial food spot on the way.

Besides this visit the army run Log-hut cafe in Dawar. Visit the Khandian Top in Dawar.

Day 8 - Gurez to Srinagar Airport

Leave early in the morning to catch the evening flight from Srinagar. Jawahar market is a good market in close proximity to the airport. Also stop at Amigos for the city’s favourite pizza. But frankly you won’t miss much if you don’t eat it.
